GRADES K-5
Kindergarten students quickly become competent 1st graders at Trinity, taking and finishing our Accelerated Skills Reading Program. Kinder Math is also supplemented with first grade Math during the later portion of the school year, confidently placing achieving students ahead of average grade-level Math skills. These emerging students complete the basic foundation of vital learning experiences with Science and Social Studies.
Kindergarten students’ greatest development occurs as they mature behaviorally by attending a structured daily environment throughout the school year with their competent teacher leading the way. Yes, there is still plenty of time to play and have fun, but learning and achieving curriculum goals have become “the marching orders” of each day.
First Graders receive a strong Math curriculum augmented with second grade basic Math skills in order to develop the students’ proficiency in the beginning Math disciplines and develop skills early in the learning process.
In Language Arts, beginning phonics reading skills are both reviewed and improved upon – comprehension strategies are added to complement their knowledge and more completely develop their reading proficiency.
Grammar Studies with Writing Application opportunities are given as an integral part of expanding the Language Arts curriculum for these progressing students. Learning parts of speech and writing sentences and paragraphs creates an enriching experience for students as they discover how to express their thoughts effectively on paper.
Science and Social Studies teaches students to make broader use of their newfound reading abilities, exploring historical and scientific facts and experimenting with different elements and concepts of tangible reality.
*Art, Drama, and Music are interspersed weekly as students are completing their basic and accelerated education requirements.
2nd-5th Grade students continuing to expand their prior knowledge and academic ability must receive a broader and more challenging curriculum in order to meet their educational needs with regard to their progressive rate of growth and mastery. This evolving curriculum will, sometimes, be conjoined with accelerated grade level materials to ensure that students will have the necessary resources to reach their academic potential.
The Language Arts: Reading Comprehension, Ancillary Reading Program, and Grammar Studies, with their applicable writing applications, raise students’ learning proficiencies to the appropriate and/or accelerated levels of language competency.
Higher levels of Math are introduced during these critical years. Moving beyond the basics, 2nd-5th grade math curriculum will include elements of Algebra, Geometry, Probability, Graphing, Units of Measurement, and any other applicable math concepts for study.
Science and Social Studies become increasingly more enjoyable for students who begin to explore historical facts, and utilize scientific data for analysis and experimentation.
